Wah Yan Dramatic Society to raise fund for SDP
The Wah Yan Dramatic Society will be putting on another performance of A Lizard is No Dragon in aid of the School Development Project of WYCHK. This is one of the favourite performances of the Society which has been staged twice in Hong Kong and once in Vancouver in the recent past. The performance will be held on 22 and 23 October at the Drama Theatre of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. The Society is aiming to have more students and young members involved this time round so as to generate more interest in this art form in the younger generation." Alfred Wu (¡¦82)

The design study for the new School Hall (Phase III of SDP) recently presented by AGC Design Ltd in collaboration with AD+RG Architecture Design & Research Group Ltd suggests a multi-purpose school hall located on the first floor that is large enough to accommodate the whole school in an assembly or used as a competition size indoor basketball court. The spacious entrance lobby on the ground floor doubles as a covered playground on rainy days. It can also be converted into three extra classrooms to make a total of five classrooms on the same floor together with two permanent ones. Four more classrooms on the fourth floor help to meet the hardware requirements for small class teaching. The learning environment for these classrooms is much enhanced by a roof garden overlooking the lawn and the old teaching block. The fifth floor at the top features a lecture theatre that, when properly fitted out, will raise the standards of our school's facilities tremendously.
Slope stabilization will need to be completed prior to the commencement of construction. A redevelopment time table will be announced at a later stage. Meanwhile, please download and view Presentation Drawings (3.8 Mb PowerPoint) for a better understanding of the project.
We are still $44 million short. So please continue to make donation to SDP!

Due to fluctuating costs and changing design requirements, the fund raising target amount stated above is subject to adjustments

The School Management Committee made the decision on the school hall redevelopment site in a meeting on 15 Dec 2008. Option 1, the selected plan, is for rebuilding the school hall on its existing site. The new school hall is envisaged to be large enough to accommodate all the students in an assembly and the building is likely to be extended to cover part of the lawn in order to do so. More details will be announced in due course.

The Wah Yan Dramatic Society raised over $4 million for the SDP at their Cantonese Opera in English performance held in the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 7th February 2007 to celebrate their 60th Anniversary.
The opening of the new SDP
Annex was officiated by Mr. Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of HKSAR on Saturday, 21st January, 2006.
View pictures posted at the School's home page.
On 19th August, 2005, the Annex
was officially handed over to the Contractor and then to the Principal and Mr.
Wong Yui Tak on behalf of the School. The ceremony was also graced by representatives
from the Education and Manpower Bureau, the Architectural Services Department
as well as the various consultants of the SIP.
The SIP is a wonderful result of tight cooperation amongst all friends of Wah
Yan, especially the alumni, parents and students. Of course professional inputs
from the staff and the Consultant Team were most invaluable. So good were they,
we were in fact 13 days ahead of schedule in completion, a very rare happening
for this kind of project development.
This also marks the completion of SDP Phase I & II, bringing Wah Yan into compliance
with EMB¡¦s Y2K Campus Standard. Now, let's work hand in hand (hyperlink to the
3 donation forms towards the end of that section) for the remaining Phase III,
the redevelopment of the Hall, with preliminary ground-setting works already
started with the assistance of our consultants. Anyway, share our joy for this
official handover at the
school's photo link.
Pictures of the interior of the new block have been posted at the school's
home page.

Development Project) as seen from the ground floor (left picture) and roof top

A topping ceremony was held this afternoon to commemorate the completion of the
structural works of Phases 1 & 2 of the School Development Project. Rev. Fr. A.J.
Deignan officiated at the simple but memorable ceremony with SDP patrons Mr. William
Kwan and Mr. Hugo Hung, SDP board members including Mr. George Tam, Mr. Patrick
Wu and Mr. Peter Tam, and representatives from the school staff, the PSA, the
PTA, student bodies, the architects and the contractors. Click here to view PHOTO

As the SIP Annex, phases 1 and 2 of
the School Development Project, is nearing completion, Principal George Tam and
Assistant Principal W.S. Lo inspected the building on 1st September, 2004. The

The Oldies Concert, featuring Hacken Lee and organized by a group of old boys
headed by Lawrence Tse Kam Ming ('69), successfully raised $2.6 Million for Wah
Yan Hong Kong's SDP project. Involved over two hundred workers and attended by
over 6,000, the event held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre -
Hall 3 on the 17th December 2003 was believed to be the best attended function
in the history of Wah Yan.

Fr. Deignan and Mr. Raymond Hung (representing the main contractors) signed on
the dotted line at the SDP Phases 1 & 2 Contract Signing Ceremony held in the
School Hall at 3:00 p.m. on 27th September 2003.
Principal Mr. George Tam gave a detailed account on the progress of the SDP and
Hugo Hung, old boy and SDP Patron, made a moving speech to appeal to Wahyanites
to donate. Mr. Hung sited convincing examples on how the 'Wah Yan Spirit' united
old boys over the past decades and urged everyone to continue the fine tradition
of 'Caring for Wah Yan'.... more

At the PSA Past Presidents bi-monthly luncheon held on Friday, 18th July 2003,
Mr. William Kwan, Legal Advisor of the PSA and a Patron of the School Development
Project (SDP), made an appeal to all for further donations and initiated a 'Gold
Donation' 10-year installment plan to make payment easier. Full

Project Commencement
Ceremony - 25 May 2003
Men at work !.....plus 1 lady of course. Don't they all look good in hard hats
rather than with face masks? Today in a fun filled atmosphere, the first piece
of breaking, and thus commencement of construction for the SDP, took place.
About 100 guests witnessed the ceremony and joined forces in wishing the best
for the SDP. They all went home with a piece of small treasure - a piece of
the roof slabs pasted on a piece of wood made from our old classroom desks.
We are pleased to report that a $300,000 cheque was received from a generous
donor on 28th March 2003. Wishing to remain anonymous, the donor also indicated
that his intention was to donate another similar amount next year!

Dr. Patrick
Wu '58 has made a generous $5M donation. Dr. Chung Ka Leung '70
and the Class of '75 have also made significant donations.
