Response by Wah Yan College, Hong Kong on the paper for the Long Term Management of Low-Level Radioactive Waste issued by the Environment and Food Bureau on 19th February, 2002

1) We welcome all proposals offered by the government to remove the radioactive waste. All proposals will be submitted to the Legislative Council for discussion and funding on 25th February, 2002. We express our gratitude to all those who have helped us make progress in this matter.

2) It has always been our hope that the government will remove the radioactive waste from Queen's Road East to a safe place of permanent storage through the best possible arrangement for the interest of all concerned.

3) In the meantime, we urge the relevant government departments to continue monitoring the safety level of the existing storage and take the best precautions possible during the actual removal.
