Newsletter October 2011
Dear Friends,
Greetings! Many of you might have heard about our plan to establish a Jesuit university in Hong Kong. Let me take this opportunity to share with you on some latest developments.

We have appointed 3 senior administrators pro tempore (President, Provost, and VP Finance & Administration) to assist us on planning, secured 4 Founding Partners (College of the Holy Cross, Fordham University, Georgetown University and Santa Clara University) to provide us with strong institutional support and another 17 Jesuit universities in Europe, United States, South America, Japan, and India that are willing to collaborate with us. We are now forming a truly international Board of Trustees comprising Jesuits leading these institutions.
We had two rounds of planning meetings in early August and early October, covering many crucial aspects such as vision and mission, education model, governance structure, financial model, initial programs and majors, articulation programs and campus planning. Taking into account government expectation and growth pattern of other Jesuit universities, we have reached consensus of establishing a liberal arts college of 3000 students in phase 1, then growing it to 5000 students and offering graduate programs in phase 2, and gradually reaching target of about 8000 students in the long run (similar to the size of one of our Founding Partners, Santa Clara University).

The Chief Executive Donald Tsang announced on October 12 in his Policy Address that "The Queen's Hill site is expected to be put up for application next year." (Note: this 16-hectare former British army barrack in Fanling will be our ideal campus site.)
Next Steps
We are preparing for the tender and accreditation exercises - drafting the Institutional Review document, engaging consultants and professionals to conduct market survey and campus planning, consulting educators, parents and other stakeholders on our proposed model, and building community support. We need lots of professional and financial support. I hope you can contribute your time, expertise and resources to make it happen - let us all work together to make an important move for higher education in this part of the world!
May you be blessed with good health and inner peace.
