Announcement on the roles of Mr. George Tam

Dear Colleagues, Alumni, Parents, and Students,

We have just celebrated Christmas in the school yesterday when the long service awards were proudly presented at the Staff Christmas Lunch. You would be delighted to learn that Mr. George Tam was presented with the "longest" service award since its creation - 40 years of dedicated and hardworking services to our school community!

Upon the completion of the major mission of the School Development Project (SDP) with the opening of the new School Hall Complex, Mr. Tam will also complete his role as the Assistant Supervisor officially on 30th January, 2015. In the evening, we will give thanks to members of the SDP at the Appreciation Dinner to be held in their honor.

Mr. Tam will, however, continue to serve our school as a consultant until 31st July, 2015 and raise fund for the much needed maintenance fund of the SDP. He will be occupying his current office until this summer. Once again we are grateful for Mr. Tam's devotion, especially in seeing to it that the new buildings will be supported with a healthy maintenance fund.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a joyous and peaceful Christmas as well as a blessed and more fulfilling 2015!

Fr. Stephen Chow, S.J.
School Supervisor

Rest in Peace...

Our old boy, Mr. Alan Sin, from class 2014 6W was found dead earlier this morning at CityU Student Residence. He entered CityU studying Law this year and was running for president for the next Law Students' Society. During his school time in Wah Yan, he was the Secretary of General Affairs for Zafar of the Student Association and the Vice Captain of the Chinese Debating Team. He won numerous championships for the school including the best debator award.

We are deeply saddened about the loss of Alan, a humble and promising gentleman who was just starting the next stage of school life.

May God be with you...

International Conference 2014 Update

Dear fellow Wahyanites,

Wasn’t aware until now that quite a no. of our Wahyantsais don’t know what IC is about. The term “International Conference” sounded so official that majority don’t think it’s someone without any qualification and/or achievement can attend, including myself 4 years ago. Because there have been so many successful & well-known senior government officials as well as businessmen nurtured by the 2 Wah Yans.

First one started in 1988 and have been organized biennially till now, in different places worldwide. Each time we’d have a different theme. This year it is called the “ Heritage of Jesuits “ as proposed by Dr. John Tan. Instead of sitting in a conference room listening to different speakers expressing their points of views, participants would be taken to Macau as well as Yim Tin Tsai, Sai Kung on Dec 6 & 7 respectively to learn a little more about what the Jesuits had left us since a few hundred years ago.

One of the reasons why IC is to be held in HK this year is because it coincides with the Anniversary of the 2 Wah Yans. 90th for Wah Yan Kowloon & 95th for Wah Yan HK. Another reason is because of the completion of the new school hall at WYCHK and the new football turf at WYK. It’d be a good opportunity for you to come take a look especially those who had made contributions, big or small to our schools.

Wah Yan One Family Foundation Ltd makes good use of this opportunity to have a fund raising dinner organized to replace our usual IC dinner, which is now called the Gratitude Dinner to be held in the evening of Dec 6, 2014. After all, it’s a general dinner gathering for all Wahyantsais worldwide. So pls try to make yourself available as much as you can. Thanks.

No dress code applies for any of the IC activities or Gratitude Dinner. If you can’t attend all the events, other than attending the Gratitude Dinner, I would suggest you to come to our first Registration Day on Dec 5 at the new school hall of Wah Yan College Hong Kong because a lot of Jesuit Fathers, retired teachers and Overseas Chapters would be there. It’d be more or less a “blow water” evening for us even it’s described as “ Global Chat” in our agenda.

I understand it’d be a bit rush going to Macau in the morning of Dec 6 returning on the same day then go attend the Gratitude Dinner held at the campus of Wah Yan Kowloon. As it’d not be that hot in Dec in HK and dinner starts at 7:00 pm that evening, I hope it won’t be that much of a breathless trip for you.

Not to mention overseas alumni might not have visited Yim Tin Tsai before, local ones probably. Pls join us together with your family members to enjoy a nice outing on Dec 7.

As there would be lots of things to be arranged, pls help sign up on/before Nov 15, 2014 or contact me, either by phone or email if necessary. I’d be more than happy to help, as much as I can. Thanks a lot.

For those who want to attend just the Gratitude Dinner, pls go to http://www.wahyanonefamily.org/ to take a look or send email directly to the Chairman of Gratitude Dinner OC Mr. Sam Yu at samcyu83@gmail.com or Monty Fong of One Family at monty@wahyanonefamily.org.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Thanks for the supports, as always.

The first gathering this year for the Wah Yan Finance Fraternity was successfully held on May 29, 2014 in Chinese Club, Central

Over 120 Wahyanites from different finance-related areas, spanned from 2009 graduates to very senior bankers like Patrick Wu and Peter Wong from 1958, have joined the drink and dinner that night. We were very honoured to have speeches delivered by our Guests of Honour, namely, our School Supervisors, Fr. Stephen Chow and Mr. George Tam, WYCHK Principal, Dr. Y.L. So, and PYAWYPS Principal, Dr. John Tan. They have reminded us with the Vision Statement of Jesuit Education and gave guidance on how should we apply the Wah Yan Spirit in our daily work and life. It was also our honor to have the presence of our beloved teachers, 馮錦生老師, 雷偉松老師, 葉福華老師, to enlighten our night with their experience sharing.

You can check out the photo gallery here.

We welcome more Wahyanites who are working in finance-related areas to join our Fraternity to further expand and strengthen our Wah Yan network and bonding. For registration, please reach out to the below contacts. Thanks!

15th Wah Yan Football League Cup – A belated finish

HOW TO FIND YOU (WYK 01’) tasted their first Championship by beating SUNDAY DROGBA (WYHK 03’) with a convincing win of 3 - 1 in the finale.

The rain earlier in the day caused the players to be very cautious on the slippery field. Each team had a header scored from corner kicks and that’s more or less about the first half. When the players returned to the field, HOW TO FIND YOU put more pressure on SUNDAY DROGBA causing the latter to make mistakes and paid the price. The sloppy defense for SUNDAY DROGBA continued and soon they lost one more goal in the dying minutes.

The 2nd runners up trophy went to the veteran S & P (WYK 85’) team.

The Elite winner is Y900 (WYHK 98’) and they beat Viata Champion (WYK 08’) by 2 – 0. The 2nd runners up for the consolation games is What Team Fun (WYK 06’).

The top scorer award goes to Chow Wai Lam (WYK 09’), who scored 16 goals in the tournament.

The finale and prize presentation were officiated by the two Principals, Dr. Y. L. So from WYHK and Mr. Warren Chung from WYK as well the two PSA Chairmen, Mr. Anthony Ip and Mr. Sam Yu. In his closing speech, Mr. Chung gave his green light for the future Wah Yan Football League Tournament to play on and on and to move to the new artificial pitch to bring more fun, joy and safety to the participants.
